Another one of my favorites! Could not do in 2011 because of schedule, but already on calendar for 2012. They start off with a mile race at 11pm, then a 5k at 11;20pm, and finnally followed by a 10k starting at 12:15am on July 4th. You run out onto the causeway towards Honeymoon Island Park for a down and back . The mile goes towards the bridge for its turnaround. The 5k proceeds over the bridge and out on the causeway for its turnaround. The 10k proceeds into Honeymoon Park for its turnaround. Since it was so late and dark I ran with my son in the 5k at his pace. It had just rain earlier in the night so the roads were a little wet, but the tempature was not warm at all. Had water at the base of the bridge so it was very early or late in the race according if you were going/coming. Was different to be running so late at night so another fun time on the course. Water and snacks at the end, but awarded my son with some Mc Donalds on the way home. He placed in age group and receive a plaque. You can do all three races if you want and the same person won all three in 2010. My plan in 2012 is to all three, but of course not win and probbaly not place in any other them either.Would be a nice touch if you did all three to receive something thou. Nice Tech shirts and 1732 runners were there total in 2010.
Beat the Heat 5k Saturday July 17 Thonotosassa Fl
The second of three dates in the summer. Yes it was hot! Ran 23:41 and there were 73 runners. Did the mile with daughter which she ran/walked this time finishing in 14:37.
Sunsets at the Pier 60 5k Friday July 23 Clearwater Beach Fl
This was also an evening race which normally I like, but my first time running a race on the beach did not go so well. I made the mistake of running the mile kids race with the daughter beforehand and it tired me out before the 5k started. Started going out from the pier with running into the wind which made it harder. At the turnaround it did make it better with the wind but, I didnt have much left for the finish.Finished in 25:29. Mile markers and water at the turn. Son received a "Sanddollar" medal for placing. Tech shirts. Nice event on the beach, but learned beach running is not my thing.
Publix Family Fitness Saturday July 31 Melbourne Beach Fl
This race was done in conjuntion with the Publix Triathlons that are done the next day.The triathlons are attended very well, but there is not much to the day before races. There was allot of disorganization for the 5k and Kids races. Very small turnout. I think about 40. Wind was very strong on the turnaround. Ran 11.40 out and 16:27 back in for 28:07. They had a kids run, but ran out of medals or the kids even thou there were only about 15!! Would not do this event again. They didnt have again in 2011.
