Beat the Heat 5k Saturday June 19 Thonotosassa Fl
Only race I did in June was the first of three Beat the Heat races at Taylor Park in Thonotosassa. These are small, but fun events that are put on by the Hillsborough Park association. They do a 5k and a Fun Run 1 mile. Both start in Taylor Park and go out on a down and back on Taylor road then Sligh Ave. This course is tough one with varying degrees of hills you encounter. Mile markers and water halfway turnaround. Times are given at 1 and 2 miles. Not much at the finish except water and bannanas, but cost is $15 in advance. The mile follow the same route with turnaround at 1/2 mile mark. With a small field placing in your age group can be easily done with a decent time or there might not be anyone in your age group. Trophies are given out and there are multiple age groups for the kids in the mile race.Cptton t shirts. About 55 total runners. Being in July it was very warm and tempature increases quickly. Ran 25:12 in this first one. Pushed my daughter in the mile finishing in 11:40, and quickly decided that I will not do that again. But she did get a trophy thou. Did the other two and again in 2011. Helps it is 5 minutes from the house.
We all received trophies including my daughter that I pushed in stroller. Son received one for both the 5k and the mile races.
